Student Journalists

JournalistsWEBA group of 15 Year 9 students have started a journalist project with Teachfirst and The Student View.  The students have been learning the basics of engaging article writing and journalism.

This project has been an exciting opportunity for the students to write about what they feel passionate about and a chance to improve and show off their English skills. All of the students have written 'listicles' – small articles on a topic of their choice – which have been published on The Student View website.

Five of the students visited the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday 22 November to put their journalistic skills into practise. They sat down with the Labour MP for Lewisham East, Heidi Alexander and interviewed her about a number of issues, including immigration, improvements in the local area and housing for immigrants and the elderly. The students showed great maturity with their questions as well as passion about their community, which was fantastic to see.

The project will run for the rest of the academic year with a number of sessions dedicated to improving and mastering their journalistic skills.  Students will write more challenging and developed articles and will most certainly be well on their way to becoming excellent journalists!
