On Thursday 9 March, Year 9 Food Technology students were treated to a healthy Chinese cooking workshop by visiting 'Healthy Chinese Cuisine Chefs'.
This was a great opportunity for our Year 9 Food Technology students to learn about healthy Chinese food and the art of Chinese cooking.
The students learnt how to prepare Chinese meals using different cooking techniques and acquired tips from our two visiting chefs.
The session began with a presentation on the history of Chinese cooking, sauces and flavouring. The students found it interesting to learn that Chinese cuisine is quite varied across different regions of china.
The chefs demonstrated step by step instructions on how to make Kung Pao Chicken, which was a real hit with everyone. Each student demonstrated an excellent understanding and capability in their cooking skills. They then presented their finished dishes and received feedback from the Chefs.
The students were entered into a competition to prepare the best dish based on presentation, aroma and taste. Prizes included: Chinese recipe books and a Parker pen. Chefs found it difficult to judge between the dishes due to the high quality of our students completed dishes.
Well done to the winning students: Lamar in 9R, Ismail in 9A & Lee in 9F.
All students thoroughly enjoyed learning about Chinese cuisine and working independently while cooking a healthy Chinese dish.
The chefs complimented students on their excellent behaviour and engagement in the day. Year 9 students clearly demonstrated that they are true ambassadors not only for the Design & Technology department but also the College as a whole.
