Speak Out Challenge Regional Finals 2017

Wow what a night!! 

On the evening of Thursday 11 May, I had the great humbling privilege to listen to nineteen of the finest and most passionate Year 10 speakers in Lewisham.  Speeches full of passion, laughter, knowledge and emotion, bringing the audience close to tears and displaying a talent on an incomparable level to most public speakers.

isa on stageLewisham 2016-17 issa with mayorLewisham nat on stageOur brilliant Year 10 representatives at the event; Isa and Nathaniel really wowed the audience with their fantastic speeches.   Nathaniel's speech was entitled 'Journey of Life' and Isa's speech was entitled 'Sacrifice', about the sacrifice of a single parent with particular reference to her mum.

Speak Out Challenge

SpeakOutThe Speak Out Challenge is the largest speaking competition for young people in the world. Run by Speakers Trust and funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation, the "Speak Out" Challenge! has now trained over 134,000 Year 10 students from 37 regions in London.

During each academic year the 'Speak Out Challenge!' offers every secondary school in London public speaking workshops for Year 10 students. Each year over 18,000 young people are trained in how to "Speak Out".

Urban Plan UK Project

UPUK4Fantastic! Amazing! Wonderful! Just some of the words used to describe the workshop facilitated by Urban Plan UK, for thirty Year 10 students on Thursday 9 March.

The workshop started with a real buzz. We were put into groups to produce our group design for new facilities and retail outlets as part of a venture to build new, thriving sustainable communities.

Enterprise in a Box

EinB1This term, 60 of our Year 9 Business Studies students took part in a practical Business workshop facilitated by MyBnk as part of their marketing unit. The students were introduced to the concept of social enterprise where they practised pitching and selling.

Working in teams, the students identified their target audience, completed a business plan, set prices and also analysed the risks and rewards using SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weakness Opportunities, Threats).

business1On Tuesday 17 November, thirty Year 9 & 10 Business Studies students were given the amazing opportunity to visit Societe Generale, a multinational banking and financial services company in Global Transaction Banking, International Retail Banking, Financial services, Corporate and Investment Banking. Established in 28 locations worldwide with 4,000 employees.
