Key Stage 3 Maths

At Key Stage 3 we follow the new framework for Maths.  Students are placed in ability groups in the first two weeks of coming to Conisborough College in Year 7 and are regularly tested, regrouped and monitored to check their progress.

Homework is set on a regular basis on MyMaths website, where students have their own personal login and can track their progress.

maths4In all Year groups students will experience investigative and problem-solving exercises, as well as developing mental and number skills.  Practical equipment, computers and calculators are encouraged so having your own mathematical equipment and calculator is very important. Your homework will be checked regularly and throughout this time, you could be re-grouped according to your test results and general progress

Key Stage 4 Maths

At Key Stage 4 students follow the Edexcel GCSE linear or modular schemes, depending on their ability and learning styles.
  • Foundation Level - achieve C-G
  • Higher Level - achieve A*-D

maths5Students in the top three sets are entered early for their GCSE examination and students who achieve an A go on to do OCR stand alone Additional Maths.

Students are tested each term to ensure that they are on target to achieve their best result.  Our aim is to challenge students who are underachieving to get them back on target.  This is carried out through revision clubs, assessment and one to one tuition.

maths3We have seen an upward trend in Maths results and will continue to strive to make our department outstanding, maximising the potential of our students by enabling them to be well rounded Mathematicians.

Further Study

GCSE Mathematics is a common general requirement for many careers. A good grade will enable you to apply for courses in ICT, teaching and management, as well as entry to university. You will also need an A-B grade if you wish to study mathematics further to ‘A’ Level.

Students are involved in Maths outside of the classroom, we are involved in national Maths challenges, master classes and number days.
