Key Stage 3 Geography
In Geography you will be introduced to geographical skills such as, a knowledge of place and an understanding of geographical processes.
In Year 7 you will focus on the following units:

- Exploring England
- Natural Hazards
- Hydrology
- USA
In Year 8 you will focus on:
- Migration and Population
- Rainforest
- Coasts
- Tourism
- Japan
In Year 9 you will study:
- Weather Patterns
- Climate
- Crime in the Community
- What is Development
- Africa
In each year you will have chances to extend your new skills using IT, fieldwork, role-play and case studies.

What is Geography?
“Geography is the study of the interaction of people and the built and natural environment.”

GCSE Geography B (Avery Hill), in association with the WJEC studied over Years 10 and 11.
Course Content and Structure
The subject is taught through the study of three interlinked units. These are:
1. Challenges of Living in the Built Environment
- inequalities in urban areas
- improving the urban environment
- urban / rural interactions
2. People and the Natural World interactions
- the hydrosphere
- natural landforms, e.g. rivers and coasts
- a field study of a distinct landform, e.g. the North Norfolk Coast
- weather and climate
- natural environments as issues of global concern
3. People, Work and Development
- patterns of work and development
- work and development
How is GCSE Geography taught?
The course involves students developing a range of distinct skills that will well equip them for future life. Students will develop: proficient map skills; a range of ICT skills; they will have to research and give oral presentations; take part in role-plays and simulations; and take a full part in residential field work (as part of a written piece of coursework).
Methods of GCSE Geography Assessment
We keep track of how well the students are doing through regular homework and classwork. Tests will be given at the end of each topic to asses progress and development.
Final Assessment: Written Exam 75% Course Study 15% Oral Exam 10%

Geography and Job Prospects
Geography is a versatile qualification for various jobs: marine scientist, geologist, environmental health officer, archaeologist, conservationist, city planner or journalist.
