Frequently Asked Questions on Attendance
Will I be made aware if my child is a poor attendee?
Yes, if their attendance falls below an acceptable level a meeting will be arranged for you to discuss this.
Can I take my child out of school for Leave of Absence?
The department of Education no longer allows Headteachers to grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Any absence from school will disrupt your child’s learning. Holidays may not be authorised if your child’s attendance is below 90% and remains at the discretion of the Headteacher.
What do I do if my child has a medical or dental appointment?
Medical and dental appointments should be made outside of school hours unless specialist hospital / orthodontic appointments have to be kept or it is a medical / dental emergency.
Where possible, your child should either attend school before, or return to school after, the appointment.
The school requires official evidence of all appointments e.g. GP appointments card or hospital letter. The student should bring this to the attendance office on the day they return to school to avoid an unauthorised absence mark.
