Inclusion At Conisborough

The Inclusion Quality Mark
Gaining a Quality Mark in inclusion does not depend on the school’s attainment in their exam results but instead focuses upon learning and achievement in its widest sense and looks at how schools see differences as opportunities for learning.

All our inclusion provisions aim to keep the members of our school’s community in SHAPE (Safe, Healthy, Achieve, Positive contribution & Economic Well-being).

We are fully comitted to the principles of ‘Every Child Matters’.  The five outcomes of ‘Every Child Matters’ are central to everything that is done at Conisborough College.  We are dedicated to safeguarding the students and promoting their welfare at all times.  We aim to provide an environment where they can:

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic well-being

To ensure outcomes are met, Conisborough College has access to a wide range of professional agencies to support the students at various stages during their school career.  The agencies might be:

  • Educational Psychologist
  • CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service)
  • Social Services
  • School Nurse
  • Educational Welfare Services

We also try to build a close relationship between home and school to ensure information is shared and to solve any problems that might occur as quickly as possible.  Parents are always encouraged to contact the school if they feel there is a problem they would like to discuss with staff.  The Form Tutors, Achievement Leaders and Senior Management Team are always happy to discuss any issues a parent might have.

Ms B. Davis – SENDCo

Counselling

We offer counselling on a referral basis to students who require emotional support. ‘One in Four’ counsellors are available four days per week.

We promote an ethos where everyone has a right to be respected and where differences are seen as learning opportunities. Our students and parents are given a voice through our student council and our PTA.  We have a clear, well publicised policy on bullying and cyberbullying. Counsellors and external agencies such as School/Home Support and Young Carers Lewisham, working with our students and their families.

Our drive towards a fully inclusive school is successful because we have robust monitoring and evaluating systems in place to assess the quality and impact of the provisions on student attainment.

Our Student Support

Ms B. Davis – SENDCo

Our SEND department have a range of provisions for students with additional educational needs, to enable them to overcome their barriers to learning. These include: Learning Support Assistants, a.  ASD Resources Base, an additional curriculum programme offering personalised learning for those students who find mainstream lessons difficult.  The department also runs several programmes for students who need support with literacy.

Safeguarding

Ms A. Byrne – DSL

Ms Byrne is our school’s designated safeguarding officer and should be contacted if there are any problems in this area. There may be occasions when staff are concerned about a child’s welfare and feel it necessary to make a referral to Social Services for help and support for that child. At all times the health, safety and well-being of that child remains paramount.
